Moonlight and the Sea

The feel of Grace’s soft fingertips brushing against her cheek had Rose practically swaying on her feet, though she did all she could to keep it hidden. Grace was everything Rose wasn’t. She was soft, gentle, caring, and still saw the good in the world. Rose was brutal, rough, ill-tempered, and her cynicism left a permanent scowl across her lips. Yet, all Rose wanted to do was pull Grace into her arms and bury her face into the crook of her neck. She dared not. Grace was just another person Rose would eventually ruin. She couldn’t bear another loss. She pulled away abruptly and with a scoff, left the room.

About the book:

The sea roared as the ship pitched to and fro. Captain Rose Windcaller shouted orders over the howling wind, though her crew already knew what to do. They had suffered far worse storms than this before. Rose pointed to the sail room, “Button that up!” and watched as Jaxon rushed to do her bidding, but before he could get to the door, a hand reached out and pulled it shut. No doubt sliding the latch into place to keep him out. Jaxon stopped short then turned towards his captain in confusion. “Worry about the ship first! Whoever that is, they aren’t going anywhere. Let’s get out of this storm first!”
